Occupational Safety And health

We believe that all injuries are preventable, and regard safety as a core value and a major priority. Our goal is that all our employees ~go home safe and healthy each day from each site where they are placed.

How we make safety a core value

In 2003, we began a drive to improve our safety management. Since then, our lost time injury rate has fallen by 80 per cent (end of 2007). This is a major achievement and one of which we should be proud. But while we have made great progress and are still improving, we still have injuries at our sites and significant incidents continue to occur that are of great concern. In 2004 we began comprehensive assessments of each client site, in-depth assessments of the jobs our employees are required to undertake and began declining work that we considered as unacceptable risk to our employees. We began making recommendations to our clents on how to improve workplace safety and prevent injury and in doing so set a standard of dealing with clients who also shared our vision of zero injuries.

So in 2006, we asked ourselves the question: 'What else can we do to eliminate all injuries.

'

A starting point was to gather our employees' opinions through safety surveys and questionnaires. The purpose of these safety surveys and questionnaires was firstly to gather information about what our employees know about safety, what information they receive from the host employer and what hazards that they report to us for action. As a result, we have now revised our safety strategy in line with these findings. We have moved from focusing solely on systems and instead, concentrate more on individual intentions and behaviours while still ensuring our systems remain fit for purpose.

Our results

Our goal is to have 0 injuries at all our host employer sites. Continued improvement strategies are being implemented with this goal our ultimate aim.
